Proclivities wrote:I don't remember that "Uncle Wiggily" game - thankfully. I think it was the same as Candyland. Just a random race around the board. I had to stack the deck in Candyland to make sure I didn't win. A few years ago I bought "Sorry" thinking it would be good fun. What a shitty game. I know why my parents hated to play it back when I was a kid. I guess if everyone is mature enough to get the humor in the name, it could be fun. But when your only play is to destroy your 6-year-old's self-esteem... So I taught her blackjack. We'll go to Vegas next week and see what she learned.

Aren't they in smaller boxes now, like "bookshelf" games?

Too scary and dangerous ... or I'm jus too old these days.
Take your pick. I know what you mean, Kurt. I don't like messing around with Ouija boards anymore either.

Xeric wrote:Backgammon is revolutionized and vastly improved by one simple change to the rules. Play it so that pieces that have reached the home court have the option of jumping back across to the beginning. Yeah, they have to go around again—but the opponent's pieces are never safe if left uncovered. A double six gets you back where you started, having with any luck wreaked all kinds of carnage along the way. Seriously—try it. Lends a not-over-til-it's-over quality that the standard game completely and utterly lacks.
I learned to play 'acey-deucey', where the board starts out empty, and you populate the board as you go. The biggest difference is if you roll a one-two (acey-deucy): you get double-anything and you roll again. Strategy is not that different overall though.
