To Fight Vaccine Lies, Authorities Recruit an ‘Influencer Army’
The White House has teamed up with TikTok stars, while some states are paying “local micro influencers” for pro-vaccine campaigns.

How Europe, After a Fumbling Start, Overtook the U.S. in Vaccination   NYT - ungated

The bar graphs of vaccination rates by country start from 01 April 2021 and end at 28 July 2021.  Fascinating presentation.

This is the graphical presentation that got me thinking that vaccination rates are not just about socio-economic status — an individual or household concept — but social capital, the ability of citizens to cooperate well together.

Social cohesion...

What's it gonna be like?

I think that depends on where you live. We were down to 0 local cases nationally until the Premier of New South Wales fucked up and let community spread get established in Sydney.

What's it gonna be like and what it should be like are two different things. It's gonna be an ongoing shitshow. The only question is whether you want a shitshow that kills a lot of people or a shitshow that kills fewer

Who Are the Unvaccinated in America? There’s No One Answer.
One segment of people who have avoided shots is vehemently opposed to the idea. But there is a second group, surveys suggest, that is still deciding.
As coronavirus cases rise across the United States, the fight against the pandemic is focused on an estimated 93 million people who are eligible for shots but have chosen not to get them. These are the Americans who are most vulnerable to serious illness from the highly contagious Delta variant and most likely to carry the virus, spreading it further.

It turns out, though, that this is not a single set of Americans, but in many ways two.

In one group are those who say they are adamant in their refusal of the coronavirus vaccines; they include a mix of people but tend to be disproportionately white, rural, evangelical Christian and politically conservative, surveys show.

In the other are those who say they are open to getting a shot but have been putting it off or want to wait and see before making a decision; they are a broad range of people, but tend to be a more diverse and urban group, including many younger people, Black and Latino Americans, and Democrats.

With cases surging and hospitalizations rising, health officials are making progress in inoculating this second group, who surveys suggest account for less than half of all unvaccinated adults in the United States. (...)

Well if almost everyone is fully vaxxed...
What part of 90% effective don't people understand
What part of virus running rampant in parts of the world means it is likely to mutate and some of those mutations will be nasty
I'm more than happy to have a vaccine that reduces cases and reduces severity of the disease

R_P:   A few days ago I emphasized the importance of socio-economic status in order to explain vaccination rates.  Here is a data set published by the New York Times that hints that socio-economic status of individuals is not the only factor.

The data as reported by the NYT suggests to me that 'social cooperation' is also a factor:

Tracking Coronavirus Vaccinations Around the World

The top spots in descending order go to:  UAE, Malta, Bahrain, Uruguay, Chile, Qatar, Canada, Iceland, Aruba, Singapore, etc., ....

The USA sits between Switzerland and Sweden farther down the list.  Below Sweden are Finland and Norway.    Vaccine availability has been a factor in Europe.

Share of people vaccinated against COVID-19, Jul 30, 2021

Taking into account the unhelpful politics, the USA looks pretty good.

These numbers are supposedly only for countries that break down information into first and second doses.
