power is ultimately undefeated in regards to corruptibility in human
hands. I have become convinced that all true progress will only be
achieved through an inward spiritual revolution from the ground up and
outside of the realm of politics and government altogether. However
this requires a level of unity that is well beyond our species

Weather the storm with loving kindness. In isolation or in togetherness. Me, Ive been basically living in seclusion for some years, with some very limited social contacts, once or twice a week, mostly my kids and mom, and my girlfriend. Living by myself since 10 years. What the world could need would be solidarity, and taking care of elderly neighbors, or the helpless in general.
Spirituality as in meditation has been a great boon in my life. Going inside, into that inner stillness has helped me a lot. Hard to put in words what it has done in my life. It made me stronger than I'd ever thought possible.

This instance of pandemic is giving world governments an unprecedented opportunity to exercise politics of suppression via an exemplary advice of social distancing, etc. due to corona. There have been other instances, like this one during my childhood, which I don't remember. No schools were being closed, then.
The media, concerted worldwide into more or less one voice with headlines being same all around the globe play their dirty role in distributing fear and terror into everyone's hearts. Citizens rights are being restricted on a global scale, and be it through states of national emergency or infectious disease acts, citizens rights are being infringed upon like never before. They do not want people to gather and like to root out any uprising before it even starts.
Tomorrow in Paris, the Yellow Vests are planning a bigger march, heavy police forces are presumptively sent in already (since large gatherings are forbidden). The National Guard is deployed in the state of NY, etc. - Police rights and surveillance are aggressively being extended all over, often silently 'behind the curtain', while corona fear is taking all the headlines...
To really fight a pandemic, it needs (undrained and unstrained) efficient public health systems, which are practically nowhere existing in the west. Instead of doing something, or anything about it, the opposite is what politicians seem to be aiming at. In my country, with hospitals and nursing homes heavily understaffed and stressed out long before this, the minister of health just lowered(!!!) the minimum staffing rules for hospitals to "help" cope the crisis, a week ago. Of course, most of them are private institutions. ~ The mantra of "helping the economy" fill their own pockets is still holding sway. Long live the oligarchs.

From reading things around here the past few days it looks like I should be heading down to the tracks and wait for the Double E and thank Trump for all that is wrong with the world.
Meanwhile, Warby Parker is closing all of their brick and mortars indefinitely at 6 pm today. I has a developing case of the sniffles to boot. Or is it the other thing ? Won't take long to tell.

I actually think the US will come out of this pandemic thing ok, or at least not as bad as someone might think given your dismal healthcare for the lower income people. One strength of the US system is that you have more ICU beds per capita than any other country.

That's quite likely the issue. Some routes are getting pretty congested as people shift to working & playing from home. The NA <> Asia routes are quite likely particularly hard hit.
Shit is getting real when sheltering in place starts to affect RP.
What I can clearly say is that what we do, or donât do, over the next week will have a massive impact on the local and perhaps national trajectory of coronavirus. We are only about 11 days behind Italy and generally on track to repeat what is unfortunately happening there and throughout much of the rest of Europe very soon.
