On the one hand, I hate the violence, it's abhorrent, and has no place in this society.

On the other hand, I do appreciate the resistance against the white nationalist fucktards.

From Charlottesville ...

— pedestrians being run over by cars
— fights in the streets
— police standing by
— state of emergency declared by governor

All because the city wants to remove a stupid fucking statue.

Instead of saying "this person's a mess, that person's terrible too" I'm sort of ranking everyone on a couple of simple metrics:

Which candidate is likely to:

Get us all killed?
  1. Donald Trump
  2. Ted Cruz
  3. (space held open because those two are way ahead on this one)
  4. Hillary
  5. Bernie/Jill Stein/Gary Johnson
Get me killed specifically?
  1. Ted Cruz
  2. Everyone else
Drive our economy off a cliff?
  1. This takes cooperation of congress, so Ted Cruz and the current makeup of congress are far and away the most dangerous.
  2. Trump
  3. Hillary gets a little bump because even if she has a good idea, it'll be roadblocked by congress
  4. All the rest would be figureheads without much sway except
  5. Gary Johnson's ability to reduce war expenses on his own could free up a huge amount of money. If he does it. I hired Obama to do this and it didn't go so well.

I don't think any of this was unique to my way of thinking, but I just wanted to point out that no one should be surprised by our current state of horribleness.

Nailed it.

Maybe we could just start a new thread - Days without nuclear war. Or a website like isabevigodadead.com that worked out pretty well for a long time. The ending was harsh, but in the case of www.isthereanuclearwaron.com, when the status changes we'll have other concerns.
Edit:  just saw the regional nuclear war thread...

Trump is absolutely the worst president in my life's memory going back to John Kennedy, and given I bother to study history once in awhile, one of the 2-3 worst ever.  And his inept contemporaries on that list didn't have worldwide, 24X7 instant communications and massive nuclear arsenals.  That alone puts him at the top of my Worst Ever list.  It's not even that his heart is in the right place but he's just "new to the job", or that he means well but just likes to kid a lot. He's an intellectual fool, self-absorbed with the image he created of himself, and used to getting his own way, ethics, laws and common decency be damned. He could give a flying fuck about the rest of us, as long as he gets what he wants.

We've handed this dangerous maniac the keys to the greatest country ever devised by man, the most powerful and world-threatening arsenal of weapons ever created by man, and unchecked authority to send atomic weapons thousands of times more potent than Fat Man & Little Boy that could, in fact, set off a chain reaction of events that would make The Road seem like a child's fairy tale. Civilization-ending inhalation.  I'm not being verbose - this is a real thing, has been since the '50s.  Every president since Eisenhower knew this and treated the prospect with is due reverence, "assholes" that anyone may have deemed them to be.

I have no bone to pick with you. I've seen your name & posts from time to time but can't say I know anything about you. This is about all of us. This is about survival of our way of life, and quite possibly our very lives. We're beyond the point of witty comments, personal politics, and trying to convince each other who's right and who's wrong. The freedom we enjoy to put our opinions in this Forum without being dragged into the street and shot is in serious jeopardy.  Those that don't see that are either not paying attention or don't give a damn.

I've been forced to stop dealing with this by not watching the news, not engaging in the dialog, and burying my deadhead in the sand of the Grateful Dead catalog.  I can no longer look away and wait this out. This poor excuse for a human being has got to go, and soon.

Resist or explain yourselves when we're standing on the smoldering ashes of our heritage. Resist and stop wrapping yourselves in the guise of Patriotism and slogans. Resist or in the end it won't matter.
