DOE is in charge of National Laboratories

It's somewhat important to note that "Lab Leak" and the more difficult to prove "bioweapon" are often conflated. It's understandable to think that someone studying the virus inadvertently brought their work home with them. Making the claim that it was intentional or engineered with ill intent (ha!) is still in the realm of conspiracy, IMO.

The market that this would have spread from was sanitized in like the first week of January 2020, so no proof will come from there; any thoughts that it was a lab leak are not balanced with studies of the market.

People were dying of *something* before the outbreak, the Wuhan scientists were turning over every stone to find the source of the virus. So if it was a "lab leak," it's still a virus that existed in caves and was probably responsible for several deaths in the last few months of 2019—so it seems likely that any "lab leak" OR "wet market infection" was just weeks ahead of the natural event (although that natural event would not have originated in Wuhan).

a couple of quick thoughts
iirc matt ridley pointed out very early that there was research shared with unc and wiv
similar work on similar strain of sars
he and alina chan have written a book and were on sam harris podcast speaking about this situation
if possible people should listen to it
and no this podcast isn't an exercise in bashing wiv or unc/us govt cooking up some bio weapon
they're simply and methodically looking at the available evidence and give likely scenarios
after listening it does seem more likely that it was an accidental leak from wiv
as for sachs, i'd like to see the evidence he has or what he has been privy to
could it be possible he has something? maybe
usually whenever he speaks, within three sentences you'll hear something akin to the "usa done it"
it's automatic...

Everything posted should be appropriate for all ages. The Internet is
full of adults-only hangouts. We don't see any reason to have RP be one
of them.

Lab-Leak Intelligence Reports Aren’t Scientific Conclusions

there seems to be some evidence (coming out) pointing to a lab leak from the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China...
