I'm so tired
Of playing
Playing with this bow and arrow
Gonna give my heart away
Leave it to the other girls to play
For I've been a temptress too long
Just

Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be
A woman
I just wanna be a woman

From this time, unchained
We're all looking at a different picture
Through this new frame of mind
A thousand flowers could bloom
Move over, and give us some room
Yeah

Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be
A woman
I just wanna be a woman

So don't you stop bein' a man
Just take a little look from our side when you can
Sow a little tenderness
No matter if you cry

Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be here
A woman
It's all I wanna be is a woman

For this is the beginning of forever and ever
Its time to move over

I'm so tired, of playing
Playing with this bow and arrow
Gonna give my heart away
Leave it to the other girls to play
For I've been a temptress too long

Just sooo f'n cool this tune. Love the album!!
Technically excellent, and really excises the feeling of being a woman. One of my all time favourites; gorgeous in every aspect.
Almost 30 years old.  It gets better with age!
First heard this the movie/soundtrack Stealing Beauty The whole soundtrack is terrific

I brought it home on CD when it came out, I remember listening to it the first time - and loved it. Still do.
Still stands on both feet. Solidly. Exceptional.

Don't worry, just enjoy the tune and your buzz. I am so lucky to be high while this tune is playing, absolutely excellent tune
Epic and magnificent.
Wow! An 8.2 average rating must be amongst the highest on RP (my 10 helps). Fully deserved.

Jesus, man, a month on the road with this guy, I'd shove an exhaust pipe through my fucking heart! Yeah, why don't you go make a blues album? Yeah, you could call it "I'm a Poor, Little Sad Sack." 😂.......portis head

That's a completely awful misread of the lyric.

She wants him to treat her as more than a thing to have, more of an equal. She wants respect, romantic affection, etc. She wants him to try looking at things from her perspective. She wants to be in love with him, she wants to settle down, but she wants him to be worthy of her attentions.

She wants him to be a man. Otherwise, she'll just be a memory, a regret,

She's looking under rocks for a man.

Yes, I noticed that too. ...And, the low end sounds if it was mastered for vinyl.

Next: "Ike's Rap II" by Isaac Hayes?
Would be funny to hear someone like Toby Keith or Leonard Cohen doing a cover of this song, without changing any of the lyrics, including "I just wanna be a woman".
Sheer brilliance.

Probably the best response to this line I have ever seen! @Solanus++ (always been a solid 10 for me, I only date women who fundamentally want this)

Really both are a amazing. John Martyn got a 10 and Portishead a 9.5 which rounds up to a 10.

In my day, Glory Box had quite a different connotation; but then, I'm  ancient.
BTW This is one of the first tracks I found on Napster.
Thnks RP
I might be biased as I'm most recently from Portishead, but I love this album.  I sat down and listened to it again last week, every track is outstanding, but I would pick out my favourites, Pedestal, Numb and Roads.  Not to mention Western Eyes from the second album.

Portis-head. It's a town near Bristol in the UK where Portishead are from.

I do.

It's liberating!
Look up sensuous in the dictionary: Glory Box, by Portishead.
Wow, been a while.  I need to dig out this vinyl and crank at 11 in a dark room this weekend

It hits all the right spots in my soul, too, and also gets a 10 from me.

Its definitely from a record mixed in.

I remastered this song and took all the pops and clicks out just to hear it without.  Like it either way.

This song sounds younger than its 22 years. I would push its rating from 7->8 but the last 30 seconds are a bit crap.

Not complaining though. It's still good.

This scores a 10 on my scale, which basically means: “it is impossible to play this too often,” within limits of reasonable behaviour of course. This was last played five days ago, which is perfectly reasonable. Once every day would still be reasonable. Once every 30 minutes would not be reasonable, as I experienced first-hand through a colleague who once had a 7-song playlist on endless repeat… Which actually was what made me search for a good internet radio to escape from it, and then I found RP, so at least one good thing came out of it.
