The continent of Atlantis was an island
Which lay before the great flood
In the area we now call the Atlantic Ocean.
So great an area of land,
That from her western shores
Those beautiful sailors journeyed
To the South and the North Americas with ease,
In their ships with painted sails.
To the East Africa was a neighbour,
Across a short strait of sea miles.
The great Egyptian age is

But a remnant of The Atlantian culture.
The antediluvian kings colonised the world
All the Gods who play in the mythological dramas
In all legends from all lands were from far Atlantis.

Knowing her fate,
Atlantis sent out ships to all corners of the Earth.
On board were the Twelve:

The poet, the physician, The farmer, the scientist,
The magician and the other so-called Gods of our legends.
Though Gods they were -
And as the elders of our time choose to remain blind
Let us rejoice
And let us sing
And dance and ring in the new Hail Atlantis!

Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be,
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be,
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be.
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be,
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be.
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah,
I wanna see you some day
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah,
My antediluvian baby,
My antediluvian baby, I love you, girl,
Girl, I wanna see you some day.
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah
I wanna see you some day, oh My antediluvian baby.
My antediluvian baby, I wanna see you
My antediluvian baby, gotta tell me where she gone
I wanna see you some day Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up,
Oh yeah Oh club club, down down, yeah
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah yeah yeah yeah

Scorcese love to juxtapose classic tunes over violent, intense scenes.  The first thing I thought of was Billy Batts getting beat up.
Oh man, this is the song from the Atlantis episode from Futurama! I learn so much by listening to RP

Futurama Atlantis Song

its kinda humbling how much of my education comes from watching cartoons.
GREAT SONG!  LOVE DONOVAN!  With all due respect to both parties - I think Robin Williams was chaneling Donovan in Mrs. Doubtfire.  It just jumped out at me!
From this 2019 viewpoint it's so hard to listen to this and try to put it into a perspective where he was singing from a point of Belief not humour or irony. Then again Plant and Page had no problems with weaving Gollum and the Dark Lord into their rock'n'roll. Times were more innocent, or at least accepting, within their slice of reality.
Donovan’s music does not improve with age!
Oh, man, long time no hear it! 10, of course (since 1969, the magic year).

Nice nautical puns there in that post, matey!
 Mellow Yellow?

Uh oh.
LOVE this song, haven't heard it for far too many years. Thanks RP for playing it.
First time I've heard this on RP, but I'm familiar with this track and I've always liked it. In its stoned hippie lyrics, it's more unique, thoughtful and evocative than some might believe. Which is one reason I've always liked it. Who were the rest of the 12? The great Egyptian age was over 4,000 years ago. And it's a remnant? Food for thought. Of course, my fav line is  And as the elders of our time choose to remain blind. That's surely more true now than 50 years ago.
Still, I've never fully grasped quite what the song is *about*.
Hippy dippy but ya gotta love it. Reminds me of pining over my first girlfriend in like 4th or 5th grade at an art fest in Austin, Texas called "Fiesta". I was hanging out but too shy to talk to her. I remember hearing this song over the speaker.
I saw him open for Yes (Going for the One tour) and he was promoting his latest record ("Donovan" which was quite good).

He did this and I got shivers when he said "Hail Atlantis..." along with every single other person in the auditorium.

It was really special seeing him, honestly. The folks that were the right age to see Yes were also the right age to remember and appreciate how good Donovan is/was. His Sutras album is also quite pleasant.
Should have left this with other moldy oldies
donovan
Hail Atlantis!

Can we please start playing this again?

So many good Donovan songs... except for this one. Jabberwocky (sp?) anyone?

Made me smile. Quite a goofy song, but so evocative of the era that it deserves respect. One of his better songs, too, imho.
