Upon a darkened night
The flame of love was burning in my breast
And by a lantern bright
I fled my house while all in quiet rest
Shrouded by the night
And by the secret stair I quickly fled
The veil concealed my eyes
While all within lay quiet as the dead
Oh night thou was my guide
Oh night more loving than the rising sun
Oh night that joined the lover
To the beloved one
Transforming each of them into the other
Upon that misty night
In secrecy, beyond such mortal sight
Without a guide or light
Than that which burned so deeply in my heart
That fire t'was led me on
And shone more bright than of the midday sun
To where he waited still
It was a place where no one else could come
Oh night thou was my guide
Oh night more loving than the rising sun
Oh night that joined the lover
To the beloved one
Transforming each of them into the other
Within my pounding heart
Which kept itself entirely for him
He fell into his sleep
Beneath the cedars all my love I gave
And by the fortress walls
The wind would brush his hair against his brow
And with its smoothest hand
Caressed my every sense it would allow
Oh night thou was my guide
Oh night more loving than the rising sun
Oh night that joined the lover
To the beloved one
Transforming each of them into the other
I lost myself to him
And laid my face upon my lover's breast
And care and grief grew dim
As in the morning's mist became the light
There they dimmed amongst the lilies fair
There they dimmed amongst the lilies fair
There they dimmed amongst the lilies fair
The flame of love was burning in my breast
And by a lantern bright
I fled my house while all in quiet rest
Shrouded by the night
And by the secret stair I quickly fled
The veil concealed my eyes
While all within lay quiet as the dead

One man's meat is another man's poison.. Let us not forget that and do right by each other.

Beautiful!

I hear Bryan Adams heaven in the tune.

Gotta love the Irish (celtic music) for inspiring a pint or two now and then...more now than then I think she is Canadian though...

Great for when I get dead..
It's about 3 weeks shy of 3 years ago when I first heard this beautiful piece, masterfully executed and soothing to the savage beast within. Bumped it from an 8 to a 9.
Beautiful song from a beautiful album
Yaaaaaawwwwwwn. Wake me when this is over. I'll be over there in the PSD corner.
Talk about polar opposites.
I get johnjconn's and biscobret's anti-sap response, but I can't help it, I'm part Irish, with a last name just a few letters off from the singer's, so I'm taking mutepoint's point of view. She has a lovely voice. Sip some Bushmill's, all you detractors, take a chill from your death wishes, the tune will sound better.

Hearing Loreena do this song note perfect, and live is such an experience! Joyous, moving and so so fine.
See her live if you get a chance. Truly not to be missed!

c'est vraiment trop génial. Merci
Every time this comes on there's a horrible moment when I think RP is playing Celine Dion. This is followed by another horrible moment when I realise it's actually Loreena Mckennitt. I just can't win.
Yes, this is a wonderful song.
Bill: This is fabulous. Thanks.
bill, come on. what is this tripe?

I haven't made my mind up about LM. Beautiful voice and interesting music, usually. But it always comes across a bit too theatrical to me.
not my style, but amazing voice nonetheless. My mother would like it.

Have yet to see the Canadian treasure live. Must remedy that.

Loreena is a talented songwriter. Really like her contribution.

Make mine a Bushmills.
A Canadian national treasure. Saw her last month at the Arts Centre. Captivating show, great band include Hugh Marsh on violin. He used to play with Bruce Cockburn and fit in nicely here
Beautiful.
eine wunderschöne stimme
Not my favorite song of hers, but she has so many good ones. I love her voice.
Another discovery thanks to RP. Very nice voice.
I went to Amazon and bought the CD+DVD. Also considering the Moody Blues in another vein.

Always room for a little Loreena.
Cheer up luv; the Global Financial Crisis has to come to an end sometime.

Wonderful, atmospheric and a beautiful voice.
We had the pleasure of seeing in concert recently, a lovely evening.

Nice echo.
Am I listening to a Lite Muzak station in Dublin?

A pox on you nay-sayers. Loreena is an angel with a voice to match. If all songs were to be light and airy we'd all be listening to the Partridge Family 24/7. Thank Ja for variety and for sending us Loreena.
Lovely, quite lovely in a Celtic way. Which, I like.
I thought it was nice and calming; given its early evening here and the music needs to be pleasing to the ear.

sounds like she's just trying too hard....with the lyrics, enunciation, everything. Plus the bloody thing never ends!

Truly a balm for the soul. Beautiful voice, nice and easy.

This lovely lady is a true talent
seeing that this song has an average rating of 6.9 (7 being quite likable) it is obvious that some of us would rather listen to this then your incessant droning crapacity.

Everything Loreena does is beautiful. This song's melody line and changes remind me of "Dante's Prayer" from The Book Of Secrets. Do you hear it, too?
Not my taste, reminds me of stings "on a winter night" or so. Not for me.

Aieeeeeeee! Ear bleach! I hate this melodramatic overly processed vocal crap! If I wanted to listen to saccharine, vocal crapacity, I'd put on RUpert Murdoch's SKY.fm.

Love the sound of her voice!
Love Loreena...I'm on 9 days vacation... Bill, throw anything you want at me, I don't mind...
the song u know - me and classmates would laugh in poetry lessons - the expressions sound old - a bit way off the path today - but well, I like it - the voice and all, have my moments with the song — it's good

One of the purest voices in the business. Phenomenal
It was a dark and stormy night...
But its' a sweet tune.

Not bad for a Canadian girl. Those of us who used to go to the St. Lawrence Market on a Saturday morning in Toronto in the mid 70's will fondly remember this redheaded girl with her harp busking at the north entrance.
So British Isles! So True to its form! So Good! Unique, yet familiar, talent and ambience. Perfectly done.

It's magically delicious! Oh, where is my lucky pot o' gold?
Loreena Mckennitt you make my heart sing....
Loreena McKennitt you make my ears bleed.....
EEooo, after that "Basement Jaxx" tune, it seems we've hit a rough patch — these tunes have garnered my only sub-5's. This one, probably not due to its own merits, strikes me as a bit sappy in a not good way; kinda like one of those atrocious Celine Dion "Titanic" numbers. This one is clearly much more sincere and much less produced, so I'm blaming it on Celine....
Quite Pretty,
Thanks Bill!
Thanks Bill!
S'ok. Not my favorite LMcK track by any stretch, but it's palatable.

I love listening to Loreena. Also, she is wonderfully interesting in person.
