While I was watching this talk show the other day
And on it there was this guy
And he was saying "When you let other people tell you what's right
when you leave your instinct and your own truth behind he said
that's a virus of the mind,
that's a virus of the mind"
Well I guess it's kinda like loosing your sight
For a second you think that they might be right
And it feeds the doubts that you have inside
It almost starts to feels like a crime
To follow your own rhythm and rhyme

I'm pretty happy, living in my
My own sweet time, living in my
I'm pretty happy, and I don't need your
Virus of the mind
Your virus of the mind

Well I went to this party thing last night
A lot of people I hadn't seen in a long long time
And they wanted to know about my life
But making me feel like it wasn't quite right
Like "Where's is your kids?" and "Where is you car?"
I said "I don't have either but I have a guitar"
And I ended up feeling like I was a freak
So I found some wine and something to eat
I talked to the dog to pass the time
I told myself "I'm doing just fine"
It's just a virus of the mind

It's just a virus of the mind
I'm pretty happy, living in my
My own sweet time, living in my
Yeah I'm pretty happy, and I don't need your
Virus of the mind
Your virus of the mind

It's in the deep of your soul, it's on the tip of your tongue
It's the feeling you get, when you feel young
It's in the sound of a beat, it's in the base of your spine
It's in your gut reaction, yeah every time
But they tell you what you should have, they tell you who you should be
It's in the pictures and ads and in the magazines
I'm kicking it off like a bug in the breeze
Cause is anyone out there inside me
I say "Is anyone out there inside me?"
I say "Is anyone?"

I'm pretty happy, living in my
My own sweet time, living in my
Yeah I'm pretty happy, and I don't need your
Virus of the mind

I'm pretty happy, living in my
My own sweet time, living in my
Yeah I'm pretty happy, and I don't need your
Virus of the mind
Your virus of the mind

Had to come back and rate this so it'll show in my favorites playlist! Great stuff!
Virus of the mind is a great term.

Think Social Media.
Companies
Track what we watch, listen to, read, search.

All to exploit us with ads and worse.

It is ineed a good day to fight the system.
Most excellent lyric.
First I've heard of her, as are a number of artists here! I like it a lot! Sweet voice and, nice "theme"! Any chance of possibly hearing anything else from her/them, Bill? Please?
I could swear this was "Buy Yourself A Mind", lol.
I like a song that catches my ear in the first two lines. this is one.
 Very apropos
And a nice time
Thanks
Aw NICE! This took me ALLLLL THE WAY BACK. Thanks Bill!
Nice to have this back in rotation.
Anyone have live Heather shows to trade? I have about 30 at (click here), would like to hear some recent stuff after her baby break...

Oh yuck! Why does she have to TALK through the song? Makes my skin crawl.

Bill's segues are legendary :) i too got a big laugh when Judy Blue Eyes ended with 'doodedoodoo' and this one started with the same.
Heather Nova - Virus Of The Mind Crosby Stills & Nash - Suite- Judy Blue Eyes Great transition, Bill!
wierd transition from the doo doo doo doo doo song

Is she talking about religions and memes? (see Richard Dawkins)

Yeah, great segue from one song to another. Love it. Made me laugh!
Well, that was fun!
I loved loved LOVED Siren. Why didn't I look to see if she kept making albums? I love Radio Paradise.
she looks pretty darn hot, her singing isn't quite that hot, although infectious . .. .
Heather?? I thought we were gonna come........walk this world with you! WTF?
Hilarious transition, Bill. Doo-doo-doo-ing from one to the other.
great heather.... get her 1st CD, it's amazing.
I think I caught a virus. Seems more like the stomach flu.
I\'ll bet that\'s not her \"real\" name. :D
Her first album Oyster I think its called, was an amzing record. Her 2nd album wasn\'t too bad, don\'t have this one. Like the song though.
Somebody who has this album please upload \"it\'s only love\" and I\'d be forever grateful.
Relentlessly Upbeat! Just exactly what I needed today. I\'m pretty happy... That\'s what\'s great about RP...I never even HEARD of Heather Nova before. Well done.

Yes, but I can also say "Neat piano lines", "Great Lyrics", "Good Arrangement", and "Not expecting to hear this on FM radio anytime soon." If you get a cable channel that shows old SNL episodes, watch the number of chords most lead singers play while they have a guitar in hand. It's rarely more than 3. I remember at least one who only had one finger position and just moved up and down the frets.

Very much Alanis I think. Especially the way she sings the word 'happy'. Done this way, it's fine with me. It could be one of Alanis' best songs as well and I doubt if it would be an improvement if she would perform it.
Have Two of her older albums... this sounds a lot different than the either two IMO. She clearly sounds like Alanis during the Chorus here. A little too much pop during the chorus might have done this song in. The verses are great. I'm torn. Doo do doo doo... do do do do. Upon further listening... this is really good. The chorus isn't even that bad. Sounds like Paul McCartney playing bass.

I agree Jacques, Heather sounds NOTHING like Debra H. She does sound a bit like Alanis though. This song sounds much more interesting than most of the songs on her first album. That album was okay, but rather mediocre. If this song is an indication of the rest of this album I will be most pleased. :)
Can you say, \"Two Chords\"?
Sounds a bit like a weak imitation of Liz Phair.
not enough groove/vibe for me
Much prefer Laurie Anderson\'s \"Language is a Virus\"
Wow! Where\'d this come from? Very nice, indeed. I\'d like to hear some more, please. Get a real good idea of who she is.
I have Heather Nova\'s CD \"Siren\" -- love it! She wrote all of the songs on the CD. Check it out.
great lyrics!
Reminding me a lot of Meryn Cadell official site Pretty happy bout that. :)

Her voice sounds like Deborah Harry (Blondie)
