Always had a roof above me
Always paid the rent
But I've never set foot inside a tent
Can't build a fire to save my life
I lied about being the outdoor type

I've never slept out underneath the stars,
The closest that I came to that was one time my car
Broke down for an hour in the suburbs at night
I lied about being the outdoor type.

Too scared to let you know you knew what you were looking for
I lied until I fit the bill God bless the great indoors
I lied about being the outdoor type
I've never owned a sleeping bag let alone a mountain bike

I can't go away with you on a rock climbing weekend
What if somethings on tv and it's never shown again
Its just as well I'm not invited I'm afraid of heights
I lied about being the outdoor type

Never learned to swim can't grow a beard or even fight
I lied about being the outdoor type

Frankly, they are both incredibly good tracks and I'm happy to enjoy any similarities.

I hadn't but now you've mentioned it I can see the similarities. Both brilliant song.

Quality lyrics.
The first time I ever heard this song was in Australia and was sung on Ian MacNamaras (Maccas) Australia All over show and was done by Either Ian or some other John Denver sounding singer from Oz.  Great funny song.

well, there are worse crimes.
I first heard this song in OZ on Ian Macca's Australia all over radio show, and then Evan did it, great song and great memories.
Wow blast from the past!
Brings back memories of one of my favorite movies, The Tao of Steve. Great song.
Pretty funny song! Nice to hear some musical humor for a change.
Excellent song. When the Lemonhaeds get it, they really get it!

Whatever happened to Evan Dando

What didn't happen?

Evan decided he wanted to fuck up his life and for a while succeeded spectacularly.

From back in 2006:

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/evan-dando-the-lemonheads-frontman-comes-clean-417613.html

"Evan Dando is the first to admit that, by rights, he should be dead. Following a 20-year career marked by musical triumph and wilful self-destruction, the leading light of Nineties grunge stars the Lemonheads is one of rock's most notorious burn-outs, a man who had it all and very publicly threw it away.

Dando's descent into drug addiction and mental illness reached its nadir a decade ago. Weeks after a catastrophic show at the Glastonbury festival, at which he appeared two hours late after an all-night heroin binge and was ignominiously booed off stage, he set off for Australia. At Sydney airport Dando was set upon by five policemen and arrested for possession of drugs. He was high on heroin and LSD at the time and, word has it, was found feeding coins into pavement grates and handing flowers out to strangers."
Good song, brutal Lemonheads album
MORE Lemonheas!!!!  Yaaa.

I used to really hate this song, like why in the hell would anyone advertise that they are totally ignorant of nature, the holiest of holy places on the earth and of basic wilderness survival skills (have fun after the apocalypse, bro!)...but then I realized that if every wilderness hater was spending time in the Great Outdoors, it would no longer be any fun; I'd loathe running into a guy like this at a campsite with his RV with a generator and satellite dish.  So in many ways, I appreciate that chess club and video games keeps folks like this inside so the more nature-inclined types can appreciate the solitude of nature....I'd still like to see John Denver and this guy fight to the death though.

Ding!  And the winner is Lemonheads.  Not really much of fight with Denver already being dead and all.

Don't get me wrong.  I love listening to John Denver, smoking a good cigar, drinking some 15 year old single malt scotch, sitting around a campfire while playing chess.

One of the better songs on an otherwise disappointing album.

I wish there were a way to put a song on a dating profile. This would be it. So sick of all the "I work hard and play hard" and "My favorite weekend activity is getting up at four in the morning to ride bikes in 100 degree heat" types. Blech. I love this song.

What a great tune for the faux-outdoors people we have floating about in Chico.
One should play this back-to-back with Billy Bragg's Waiting For The Great Leap Forwards

{#Ask}
I put this on a mix tape for a super-outdoorsy someone when we had just started dating. Always makes me smile. (As does the thought of mix tapes in general...Sigh...)

This sounds so much like my hubby!{#Lol}

Great movie and some of the strategy does work.

Be desireless.

Be excellent.

Retreat.

Yes! This song always reminds me of that great flick.
New to me... (not the musicians but the song). Nice...
Funny

Just for the lyrics alone! Can I have a man who ISN'T the outdoor type?
Like it.
PUSSY!

I was reminded of this song by the one RP sometimes plays called "Too Much Saturn". I thought of uploading it, but noticed it was already here but never played. I'd like to hear it in the rotation.
