From the place that I stand to the land that is openly free
Watching rivers run black by the trees that are vacant to greed

Gotta give it up
Gotta get a second chance
Gotta give it up
Gotta get a second chance and the jokes just started

Gotta give it up
Give it up, give it up
Gotta give it up

Or tell me why I'm so wrong
Where does love come from
If you've sold your reasoning out?

How can I learn if I don't understand what I see
If I'm giving this mess, take a walk through a nightmare so real

Gotta give it up
Gotta get a second chance
Gotta give it up
Gotta get a second chance and the jokes just started

Gotta give it up
Give it up, give it up
Gotta give it up

Tell me why I'm so wrong
Where does luck come from
When you've never been without?

Give it up
Give it up, give it up
Gotta give it up
Give it up, give it up
Gotta give it up

Tell me why I'm so wrong
Where does love come from
If you've sold your reasoning out?
Or tell me why I'm so wrong
Where does luck come from
When you've never been without?

You can't do that
You can't do that
You can't do that
You can't do that

A truly fantastic album that brings back so many memories.
Rock it to them up there Mark Hollis.
A stupendous album, start to finish. Talk talk doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
great song. you know some pieces are timeless
Seen Talk Talk at Red Rocks in the late 80s. Berlin was the warm up band.Such a great show to just stumble upon

Sure it's been shared in the feed before, but as a refresher:

"This is an incredible album that any RP aficionado should buy today it they don't have it - or twice as has been suggested!"
Talk Talk and their music work so well on RP. John UK
Thank you Bill for playing this again.
RIP MH from a rainy London today.
Geesh...this album(!!!!).  Though labeled "commercial" it was/is just a masterpiece.
GREAT TUNE!!  I gave it a TEN!  R.I.P Mark!  Thanx RP!
Absolutely one of the best songs ever. RIP MH.

I bought it. Twice! Accidentally, I'll admit, but in retrospect, thanks for your advice!

I think that's either one too many or one too few loves. Either you love love talk talk or love love love love talk talk. No middle ground. :)

OK... Don't fully agree - but went with 10 anyway
These guys passed me by in their day - enjoying the RP mix bringing them back!
Pure class
It still makes me sad that he left us so early.  Although we seemed to lose him a long time ago, his music stays.

I quite often feel this way.
Even when I don't & I drop to an 8 or 9 - just lets me differentiate between those I really like, from those I really really like...

Power Pop perfection.  More fun to play bass with than is probably legal.  Cant wipe the grin off my face.
If you ever get a chance beg, borrow or steal a copy of London 1986. Just awsome live band.

The shame of even mentioning Coldplay on a Talk Talk song is appalling. It should never have happened. You can't do that.

Superb musicianship and vocals🙏
R.I.P. Mark Hollis.  The world is a lesser place without you.
Totally love this one.  I've worked so hard to give up self harm.  I agree with Talk Talk...  and when I speak with God the message is clear:   "Give It Up...  You can't do that."   Now I know where the love comes from ... and why.   123K

There are 3 parts to the evolution of Talk Talk's sound, all 3 very different and equally brilliant. Maybe part 1, synth-pop, was merely very very good.

There is a 4th - "History Revisited" - the remix album by Fluke and others. Interesting variations there, too.

This one is growing on me. 7->8.
Bought it only once so far, but would buy it again, np! Totally awesome record/song.

Came back to the page 3 times as the song played - I've always liked TT but I hadn't heard this one as much. Nice!
Is good, but I prefer "Is my life".
I forgot about this album and how good it is start to finish.  Time to dig it out again.
I can't help but think that the singer is in pain...and not in an artistic way.

I'm really glad that RP reawakened me to this band.  Great stuff!
Never get tired of listening to these guys.....hard to believe that they recorded this way back in 1986!!!  Thanks RP for playing.

Nice. Makes me think of Tears For Fears.
Loved this band from the first time I heard it in the 80's and like the other guy said,
they still sound fresh. Thanks Bill, such a great station.
I love this album, thanks Bill! {#Cool}
When I was a kid used the expression 'Give it up' that loosely translated into 'You're a scrub'. It seems to fit here.
I was just listening to this CD on the way to work this morning. Bill are you telepathic? Eek
Love this group ... great to hear them.  They're so overlooked... {#Music}
Always liked TALK TALK.  Enjoy hearing them on RP.{#Angel}
Nice, keep that rockin' bass groovin' along! HOW 'BOUT THIS RADIO STATION, LISTENERS?!
Gotta give it up! As soon as that overdue advance hits my Wells Fargo account in Boulder, a check for RP has Bill and Rebeccas' names on it!

love it. too poor that he doesn't make music anymore…

I saw these guys open for Elvis Costello on his Imperial Bedroom tour in '82. Unlike many of the bands I liked from that era, Talk Talk still sounds fresh.
Any station that plays this song is a friend of mine :)
I'm almost sure this band originally called itself Double Talk (get it?), but that bit of trivia seems to have eluded Wikipedia. The best thing about Gwen Stefani's cover of "It's My Life" was that it reminded me to rediscover Talk Talk and their classically 80s sound.

I had to scroll way back to find this comment, sure someone had to have mentioned it already. It reminds me a bit of Roxy Music, but especially the voice. I thought this was Bryan Ferry at first.

One of the most interesting (and sadly underrated) bands. Love this song.
mmmmm oh yeah, gimme gimme gimme!

They opened for Elvis Costello here in NY that year. unfortunately, I didn't make the show. When I asked my friend how Talk Talk was, his reply was "we just stayed in the lobby and talk-talked.

This is the album Talk Talk started putting out brilliant music. It continued with Laughing Stock and Spirit of Eden. I wish Mark Hollis and Paul Webb would do another project together!
Perfect timing!!!!!!!!!! I needed this song today!!!!!!!!! A++++++++++++++++
I really like this... reminds me of ?? yeah! Mick Hucknall... who is this guy?

this is just so brilliant. amazing how passionately this guy can sing (or should i say desperately?). you should have seen his long hair covering his eyes while letting out his pain on the piano. so intense... makes me think again of this stupid stefanie gwen cover of 'it's my life', so hollow... anyway, this is a timeless pice of art.

I love the jacket art!
Are you listening, MickMan? Talk Talk is great! I HAVE to get some of their stuff on CD. LPs just aren't practical anymore since I haven't had a turntable in over 10 years
I still like this. It's quite 80's on the one hand, but on the other hand it's got this super Hammond sound.
Shades of Ferghal Sharkey.
What they said!
More Talk Talk!
In the Groove!!! Did I mention this was one of my favorite songs?

I considered uploading one or two tracks from Laughing Stock and Mark Hollis' solo album, but I don't think they would fit RP very well. While beautiful, these albums really have to be listened to in their entirety.

One of my top 10 albums of all time. I just hunted this album down on SACD from a dealer in Hong Kong and it was well worth the effort. It's almost unbelievable how much Talk Talk transformed over their 5 albums. Though I like them all, "Colour of Spring" is the best blend of the pop songwriting tendencies of their earlier albums with the beautiful organic arrangements of their last two albums. If you haven't heard Mark Hollis' solo album, it's the perfect 6th TT album. Also, Beth Gibbons and Rustin Man (TT minus Mark Hollis) is fantastic. -Synth80s
I never knew Colour of Spring was made in SACD. Please, give me your HK contact! Such a magnificent record begs for SACD treatment. Thanks.

THIS is REAL music! There are so many layers of delicious sound on this album, too! Thank you for playing!!!
Well, it definetly has 80's-calibre production value, I'll give it that. 8)

One of the bands that got me through the '80s. Pity about Matt Holland's addiction; I wonder what they could have done elsewise.
One of my favorite songs! Listen to the wonderful counter-melodies between the vocals and the bass over the behind the beat, "in the groove" drums and minimalistic organ and guitar perfectly mixed and produced. I would have loved to see this performed live!
I love all Talk Talk. Thanks!
great song. liked them back in the 80s..think I saw them perform with The Psychedelic Furs once. This song reminds me a lot of latter-day Roxy Music.
That organ music intro made me think Bill was going to segue to Steve Winwood from Traffic...
Hadn't heard it before. Abosultely great!
G. R. O. O. V. E. nice
This is one of my old 80's favourites that has survived the test of time, especially their albums "It's my life" and "The colour of spring". Listening to this, I just realised where the 90's "Bristol sound" (Portishead, Massive attack, what have you) got its inspiration from. Strange thing is, I don't really like the Bristol sound. Go figure

The simple fact that this is not your 'best band ever' doesn't say a thing about how much music you or anybody else heard. People come to different conclusions you know.

That's a bit of an overstatement. Okay, they are good, but if you truly think they're the best band ever, You need to hear more music, and then reconsider that boast. Fortunately, you're at the right place to hear a lot of better bands.
Anyone else hear Pete Townshend in there? I thought that one tune they did, WAS him. Late 80's. Just checked...LIFE'S WHAT YOU MAKE IT.
One of my favorite albums from the late 80s - good trippy background music.
Best band ever.
hmm not bad.
