New york wasn't mine
Was it me, or just my kind
Spinning softly, talking cheap
There's no place left to be
But a road that just goes on
To everyone leaving town
Friends as lovers
Lovers as friends
Shall we dance into the night
As the jukebox moans and pours out time
Friends and lovers
Lovers and friends
There's no place left to be
Than wrapped around your eyes
And every passing town
Or stay as lovers
Or stay as friends
There's no prayers
For dashboard light
Flagging goals
You're missing sides
'cause they say you are the one
And there's no place left to be
Than where you stand right now
I know these leaving town
Us as lovers
Lovers as friends
To your face
To speak alone
To your back
Among the proud
We're friends with lovers
Lovers with friends
And there's no place left to be
That can keep me away from you
On every passing train
I see lovers
I see friends
Darling boy
Youre on my mind, she says
I feel your skin
As if it's mine
This pain it sweet
Too sweet to touch
And there's no place left to be
In the shadow of your lives
In everyone leaving town
Friends as lovers
Lovers as friends
And there's no place left to be
Than where you are right now
Beside us leaving town
I'm your lover
I'm your friend

It's a little late for whoever makes these decisions when it comes to rock and roll to tell the person who wrote the lyrics, often the music, hires the band and has the vision to shut up and let someone else sing.
Though there are a number of exceptions in bands where the leader/lyricist doesn't also usually take the lead vocal - Rush, Squeeze & the Who being the most notable among classic rock bands, just because Neil Pert, Chris Difford and Pete Townshend chose to hand off the lead vocal duties, they are not the norm.
That's a good point - it is more the exception than the rule, though in the case of Squeeze, most of their tunes were co-written by Difford and Tillbrook.

Like so many others, this reminds me of a young Mick Jagger.
Love Billy Corgan's music...

Well, he is certainly no Josh Groban. Would you really want Groban to sing Cherub Rock? Not me.

Corgan, most definitely. He can be most subtle if he wants to be.
I was completely clueless about Zwan. I thought it might be a new Teargarden By Kaleidyscope track. Now I have to find "Zwan - Mary Star of the Sea"
Very surprised by the Mick Jagger associations. I guess I can understand it on a purely vocal pitch level, but as someone familiar with both vocalists inflection styles I doubt I would ever mistake the two.

I don't give 1's on principle, because I have a hard time rating a song "sucko-barfo".
This is one of those songs that challenge me to stick to that principle.

Quite an amazing Mick imitation; great violin and overall pace

Great violin, if they could get themselves a lead singer that could sing, they would really be on to something!

anybody knows where can i get this song, download it, or somethig?
Not bad, but I prefer the earlier Pumpkins stuff to their later stuff or Zwan's stuff.
Had to turn this up (to drown out my neighbors John Cougar Mellencamp).

A pale shadow of a once great band.
I also thought it was Mick. I still don't like it, though.

This is a live recording from a 2002 Paris show. The whole "album" is excellent. I finally figured out how to download it and convert it. I play it all the time.

If the garbage were taken out, the music would overcome the residual odor.

yeah Mick 'fes up, this is your experimental band.
I agree completely. When it first came on, I thought it was Jagger doing something by himself, which I hadn't heard before.

OH MY GOD. I love this song and haven't heard it forever, so of course it has to play RIGHT WHEN MY CLASS STARTS. So with near tears, I close realplayer, logoff the computer, and head to class, knowing that I might not hear this great song again for quite awhile.
Well, of course nobody was in the class -- and I was nearly 10 minutes late. Weird. Come back, check my email, and sure enough: class cancelled today.
Thank you stupid teachers for cancelling class at the last minute and ruining my Zwan enjoyment! Moral of this story: play this song more often!

Not my favorite Mick Jagger performance.
I often enjoy the melodies and arrangements of his work If only he could sing.
I just wish he would play far away

This one seems to be getting a TON of spins, unless I'm more of an RP junkie than I once was...
OK for the first few hearings but doesn't hold up well for radio set repeation. Over and over again for months, years on end .... no.

Well my kids are 6 and 7 year old girls, add their 12 year old half brother to the mix with the 30 minutes it takes to to drop them off it looks as if that equals 30 minutes of gravelly whining - like it or not.
Edit:
PG what would the mathmatic equation be for that??
