Okay, wow. I wasn't paying much attention, but I liked it, so I popped in here. The lyrics got to me - went to songmeanings.com to get some insight. Just, wow. Lots of good interpretations, but the theme is the same: heartbreakingly sad.

This band got me through my uneventful suburban teendom. Makes me feel like I'm in that humid 2nd floor bedroom next to my parents. Yeesh.

I still love Pinback though.

I can't vouch for your friend's experience, but I saw them live here in Boulder a couple years ago, (they seem to come through every year or two), and THEY ROCKED. Afk and Sender were the highlights, but it was all amazing. The venerable, timeless raging angst of Moby Grape opened the show, so it was a real win-win night.  Pinback's bass player is amazingly aggressive; he plays it like a guitar, and MADLY! and really drives and shapes the music, but the singer/ guitarist uses all kinds of voice and pedal effects and lots of synthesizers too. And the percussion, well, it's really superb, so the amount of sound these three can put out is like nothing since Rush back in the day!  See 'em if you can!

Man, this song blew my mind back in the day!  Still does.  This band was really interesting and I loved their layering of guitars...I used to call it wall of guitars.  They are still around?  I had their first few albums and really liked them but haven't really listened to them in the last 10 years for some reason.  Maybe time for a nostalgic stroll through the P folder.

Yes! I saw them in Vancouver. The bass player is indeed unique in his style. When Rob Crow started doing "The Worm" on stage, it was a sight to behold.

That reminds me of a time back in the 80's. Another couple and my wife and me went to see Kitaro at the Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. WE ALL FELL ASLEEP! Then we left early. Too mellow!
And that reminds me of a time in the 70's, snoozing at a Chuck Mangione concert.

Agreed, the album is worth a listen in its entirety. My personal fave and one of my all-around favorite songs is Penelope. How 'bout adding some Penelope to your Pinback playlist, Bill?

Must disagree with the review of these guys live. Saw them a couple of years ago in Newport KY and they were great. Very interesting original intelligent band.

The whole album is a good listen - not a lot out there like Pinback, similiar but not too close IMHO Johnny_Truant wrote:

This is one of those songs that takes a couple of listenings to really grow on you. It's good. I gave it a ten, but that's just because I think it's underrated. After a while I might mod it back down to an 8 or 9, but that depends on how long it remains interesting to me.
