Every night my dream's the same
Same old city with a different name
Men are coming to take me away
I don't know why, but I know I can't stay
There's a weight that's pressing down
Late at night you can hear the sound
Even the noise you make when you sleep
Can't swim across a river so deep
They know my name 'cause I told it to them
But they don't know where and they don't know when
It's coming when it's coming
There's a fear I keep so deep
Knew it's name since before I could speak, oh-oh-oh-oh
They know my name 'cause I told it to them
But they don't know where and they don't know when
It's coming, oh, when, but it's coming, keep the car running
If some night I don't come home
Please don't think I've left you alone
The same place animals go when they die
You can't climb across a mountain so high
The same city where I go when I sleep
You can't swim across a river so deep
They know my name 'cause I told it to them
But they don't know where and they don't know when
It's coming, oh, when is it coming? Keep the car running
Keep the car running, keep the car running

Arcade Fire is one of those bands that has taken me a great while to come to appreciate. Not sure why that is, and although I can appreciate their music I find that most of the time I would rather be listening to something else. Really weird. I guess their magic is making me feel positively indifferent.
First time I saw Foo Fighters play, almost 16 years ago, Dave was talking about this band and this song in particular. How he liked to dance with his little girl to it. Then about 3 members of Arcade Fire came out and played this song with the band. It was one of the most memorable moments of my life!

Big fan here. Nice rockin' song to finish off my morning. This is a solid 8 and could go higher.

first time I heard this on RP, I thought of Bowie .... he had a hand it.

This is the first AF tune I ever heard. I liked it then, they were an unknown quantity to me. (I passed on a chance to see them real cheaply when an acquaintance had to give up tickets because he had to miss a show.)
I thought, I could like this band a lot. But for me, they've lost that early mojo. PSD land. Still, even though this is sort of a typical AF tune, it's a lot more happening than the more recent dreck. This track and Intervention is about the extent of any ratings above a 4. My two cents.

Beaver Brown, anyone?
love 'em :o)
This is just terrible, no really, simply awful.
Well, geez - I've never heard this before, but it's good. Sorta Chris Isaac-meets-Beat-Farmers. Um, and why is there nothing by Beat Farmers here?
Sorry - I'm easily distracted lately. Too many things I've lost track of in my efforts to keep a paycheck coming in, and now that I'm a slacker (living on unemployment until I get full-time employment at H&R Block in January), I'm trying to get caught up on all the stuff I've missed.
Um - yanking things back to the topic - I love this song. Arcade Fire has good and bad songs, and this is a good one.

They were the highlight of the muddiest (and alas the last) glastonbury I ever attended.

Funny, I thought (cuz I'm a dork) that this was some old 80's song. Anyhow, I looked it all up and, yeah, it's from the last decade.

Not a fan of this song, so it SEEMS to be in heavy rotation....
Enjoyed the previous hour, so I guess it's not such a bad thing. I couldn't get a full hour of great music on ANY terrestrial radio station without commercials or one DUD song....
Thanks Bill and Rebecca!!!
Now stop with the Arcade Fire, already!

The more I hear of these guys, the more I like them.
I'd like to hear Robert Plant cover this fine song, as I'm guessing it would suit his voice just right.

That's what I heard at first, like an amped up, up-tempo version of "Fire". But now (esp after this thread) I hear "On the Dark Side" heavily woven in there, too.
As a result, though, those qualities of this song tug at my subconscious music-memory (b/c those two gems are in there — deep down in the childhood!). So every time I hear it, it feels so comfortably familiar...but somehow better, newer, hipper.
Nearly entirely derivative? Absolutely. But I have to admit I like it anyway.

Apparently the Foo Fighters are covering this at their shows.
For many one of the best 2007 albums. I still dont know why although I like this song. But would never consider them as the next big thing.
To my ears, there is a similarity of vocal stylings ...

I bought the album on the strength of this cut and several very positive print reviews. I was also disappointed. After a while it felt I was listening to one very long song with a potty break every 3-4 minutes. Still don't understand what all the hoo-ha is/was about. I'm not knocking the band, but I'll probably pass on the next disc. Obviously, a talented bunch, but not me cuppa...
The more I hear it the more I like it.

I often read comments about how this band is overrated, bratty, etc... and I'll throw in my two cents and give a different perspective than most have:
These guys are friends of mine. In fact, I was in a band with one of the members right before Arcade Fire hit it big. Let me just say, these guys are incredibly talented musicians. Whether or not you think that comes across in their music, that's your opinion, but they truly do have musical talent. The lead singer and his brother are closely related to the late, great Alvino Rey. They come from a musical family and it's ingrained in their blood. What they play is real and honest. Someone else posted about how they looked like EMO whiners on Austin City Limits. I had dinner with my old friend the day after they taped it, and he was so excited he was bouncing off the ceiling. It was a dream fulfilled and the next night he got to play Red Rocks. I've never seen anyone so thrilled with life. He, and the rest of the band, definitely appreciate the gift they've been given.
So I guess my point is that these are real people with real musical backgrounds who are not poseurs like so many other bands are these days.
