One night I woke up crying in the lane behind the house
Clothes were wet and steaming by the time I figured it out
You didn't die in the fire, it was the flood that carried you from me
And the embers of your house still glowing
Make it hard to sleep
It's hard to breathe

There's not much room to go more crazy
A flaming sword above my head for all of you to see
Beware my girl, beware
Beware my girl, beware of these memories and what is real, what is real

I walk this world forever in a dream
Or is this the land of the living
Or is this your way to tell me that I couldn't save you
I couldn't save you

LOL, my favourite is "there's an issue with the chair-keyboard interface".

The transition from Martha Wainwright to Neko Case does Neko's voice no favours. Maybe its a tad flat on this live performance? But going to the Grateful Dead Jack-A-Roe follows that trend...

The transition from Martha Wainwright to Neko Case is a breath of fresh air. While Martha is fine, Neko is amazing.

You must be psychic... was reading your post and low and behold.... GD Jack-A-Roe came on Jerry may not have the best voice but he can sure play the guitar!

Just heard this album the other day for the first time and was blown away by it.  Great stuff from start to finish.

Sure there is.
Frickin AMAZING, how she is our generation's Hank Williams! Her talent and mastery with the Country Twang thang are immortal, imo!

Why would you PSD anything from Neko??

Agreed, but I can take more of Neko than Florence, who suffers from the same distal occlusion. At least, that my conclusion.

Too much Neko Case on RP!! :-(   Can't stand her voice - but then again, there are very few female vocalists that I love.  Many are OK, but not Neko-  Always have to hit mute when she comes on.

Why admit that?

I too have a semi-irrational list of things I don't like but I'm always challenging myself branch out. Like Psyllium Husk, for example, I forced myself to like it and my colon hasn't stopped thanking me since. Psyllium Husk.
Ah, Neko... I love that voice! Haters be damned, I can listen to her all day and not tire of her.

She's got such a clear, powerful voice - it really doesn't belong in the country music genré.  She'd be a force to be reckoned with in the rock world. And, if she could dial it down a bit, she'd fit wonderfully in the Celtic realm, because of her conviction and nuance.

I like her, but I can't really get into her music.  She's too much vocal and not enough subtlety.  Sorry to those who love her music...

Sorry, she has a hardness about her (vocal), just scratches the hell out of my ears. With respect to "Romeo" and his/her love for ALL music that exists ANYWHERE.
hmmm, nice.

I'll have to check and see if there is a DVD of this performance.
I thought I'd not heard this before, but I'd given it a '7' - bumped to '8', and that's even with the rather intrusive steel guitar (not one of my favourite instruments).
I got turned on to Neko here on RP, and tore through all her albums.  This track didn't start out as my favorite, but in the end it's the one that stuck with me the longest.  I love Jon Rauhouse's pedal steel, the band is tight, and it's a well produced recording of Neko at her best ... live.  It's nice to hear it getting play every once in awhile, and that most people like it.

Personally, I think it's best really loud in the car with the windows down on a warm summer night.  But, that's just me.
i WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!!!

Excellent example.

The instruments don't matter when her voice us at its peak.
Smokin' - love it.

Interesting, because I like here more and more with each passing year. From the first note of her voice, I think 'ah, Neko.'

Yea, I like her less and less with each passing year.

Horrid screeching.

If you're going to play country, play country...not this crap. There are a lot of legitimate artists this girl only dreams of being able to imitate.
Not a fan of her vocal ability, either - but I'm surprised to find a well exposed person who has been around music professionally using the term "country" as if it could be narrowly defined.

Like saying "if you're going to play rock, play rock". Leaves a very wide field open to almost infinite interpretation.

I like it.  'Course I'm just a sucker for some good pedal steel guitar, too.

sounds a bit like June Carter

I like it!

Unique is exactly right, but I can't say that I like it much. I did, when I first heard Neko Case, but the novelty is wearing off for me, I'm afraid.
Neko is a pleasure to watch and listen to. 10+ from Nor-Cal!
the more I hear her voice, the more I like her.....

I'm curious Doc, are you a musican, or a critic?

I'm still curious as to your "talent" RadioDoc...  is there reason to be disrespectful to others who do well for themselves?

Thank you.  Coming from you that is a compliment.

I always can tell when I'm right.  The PR attack dogs are released.

A little less Neko would be much appreciated.  For some reason that voice just grates on my ears.  Bleah.
She's not my cuppa tea in any case, but this seems particularly uninspired.
Saw her in Tucson on Monday. I think they had literally walked a couple blocks from the recording studio. It was a benefit concert for greyhound adoption and abuse prevention - there's quite a controversial dog racing park here. Anyway, she played some new songs from their upcoming album and they sounded great.
