Watching your eyes go back and forth
Out on the highway
Watching your heart bend to the road
Kiss your forehead as I turn to go
Following those signs, driving out
Only engine smoke
Frozen in a cloud
Wishing the space would remain
Holding back your tears from letting go of your heart
Leaving the middle of the road
Letting go just a little bit
Till it all spills out the side of the road
Hole in the sea, hole in the heart
There's a hole in your hand where the money just falls
And the pain falls right through
The hole in your head wears right through
The hole in all your plans
There's a hole that shines right through
Shines right through
Out on the highway
Watching your heart bend to the road
Kiss your forehead as I turn to go
Following those signs, driving out
Only engine smoke
Frozen in a cloud
Wishing the space would remain
Holding back your tears from letting go of your heart
Leaving the middle of the road
Letting go just a little bit
Till it all spills out the side of the road
Hole in the sea, hole in the heart
There's a hole in your hand where the money just falls
And the pain falls right through
The hole in your head wears right through
The hole in all your plans
There's a hole that shines right through
Shines right through

The California side is Calexico.
Right across the border in Mexico is... Mexicali.
Get it?

Not knowing this song, never hearing it before and I got a really quite slow INXS Michael Hutchinson vibe in the beginning. Probably just me.
Saw them in Boston with Andrew Bird - an interesting combo~
For some reason evokes The Walkabouts.
And for some reason I haven't heard a Walkabouts song on RP so far.

There's a place called Mexicali just across the border. :-)

Apparently, it's across the border from Mexicali.

Mend your heart with glue, and a few Calexico songs.

What the hell is a "calexico"? A calico cat from Mexico?

Why's this guy whispering? I'm thinking it's probably because he can't sing.

Nice melody - nice hooks - economy - space.
Dissonant bridge.

Love Calexico but this track (not a bad thing) sounds eerily like Chris Rea's "The Road to Hell," a song that also deserves every bit of airplay it can get. Both 9+

"There's a hole in your hand where the money just falls"
I normally like Calexico, but this just made me want to hear John Prine's "Sam Stone":
"There's a hole in Daddy's arm where all the money goes /
Jesus Christ died for nothin' I suppose"

Good call! We used to hear "Static On The Radio" here a lot, but not so much lately.
Love Calexico and this song, which at first I thought was a Jim White song?!

Straight from the Gods down into the midnight stereo of a '68 Camaro driving through the Arizona desert.

THE REPTILES AND I...
On occasion, Burns' whispery vocals annoy me but here, they work to great effect.

Sounds like Jim White on vocals.
Not a single dud on this CD. Excellent throughout. Even better if you listen to the whole thing start to finish.
I once read that if you want people to listen, you whisper. It worked here - I'm listening this one a lot.

I kind of got a Chris Rea - Road to Hell - feel out of it.
