Hold on hold on, let me get the words out before I burst
There's no truth at all poking at the giant eyes of ancient gods
Cool heads have failed now it's time for me to have my turn
Kiss me kiss me, life is way too short to scream and shout.

Flashed up in my wildest dreams the dark red blood streams
Stretching out like vast cracked ice
The veins of you the veins of me like great forest trees
Pushing through and on and in
Gliding like a satellite in the broken night
And when I wake you're there I'm saved
Your love is life piled tight and high set against the sky
That seems to balance on its own

Sing out sing out, the silence only eats us from the inside up
I meant no harm but I only get to say these words too late
Wake up wake up, dreaming only leads to more and more nightmares
Snap out of it you said it in a way that showed you really cared.

Voice is similar; phrasing and emphasis remind me of Mr Stills, too.
Not to mention The Band, Guess Who, Leonard Cohen, Gordon Lightfoot, Tragically Hip, Neil Young…

Yeah, but they also gave us Celine Dion, so it all balances out

I like to turn up the volume knob on this song...way up....
NO.
Freaky how the lead singer sounds like Bob Welch.

This song is hypnotic, overwhelming, and beautiful. 10.
so glad RP has introduced me to Snow Patrol. They just rock my world :)
We agree. Stunning piece of writing and performance.
so intoxicating
So sublime, coming after The High Violets' "Love Is Blinding." I am always amazed at the ocean wave-like timing at play in this rocker.
I've always enjoyed the swooning ebb and flow of this song, and the vocals and lyrics touch me in heartfelt ways.  Seems so nice today...

This song is quite enjoyable, so I got the album and the rest is only "meh" to me, and their other albums are meh too.  Just too bland, predictable pop, which is markedly different from this cut ... bummed me out, as I wanted to dig into other good stuff from them.
Beautiful song!! {#Roflol}
Gary is confident and straight ahead. I appreciate that in a singer.
Great song from a great album from a great group!

yeah love this song but nothing else of theirs has grabbed my ears. some very interesting lines in this.

Appropos of nothing, the AMG search for "Snow Patrol" returns as its third entry "Dolly Parton".
Send your lightbulb out for me, send your lightbulb out.
Is Snow Patrol sending out their lifeboats out for Arctic Monkeys?
Never did care for Snow Patrol, but this song is alright.
I love'm both, but think other than voice they're way diff. No syncopated twang in SP. But great tunnel feel.

Vocally similar to Beck...just say'in. {#Meditate}
I enjoy Snow Patrol.  We saw them at the V Festival and they were very good.  Not keen on the structure of this song, though, just sounds like the same line over and over again with slight variations in the backing.  Boring, quickly, to my ear..

I've had this at a 5 forever, didn't care about it either way. Just now realized I hate it. Dropped to a 2... now I sound like Casey Kasem. Falling 3 this week, it's Snow Patrol! Now a word from Clearasil.
Lyrics aside which are deep and constructive, the tune is a joy to listen to.

I'll second that. PT are as Rachmaninov to Einaudi, at another level of complexity and feeling, for all that I like Ludovico Einaudi. This song playing after Coldplay's White Shadow makes me realise that Coldplay and Snow Patrol are of a musical kind: cool (in the sense of distant and unemotional), relatively simple, and perhaps a touch corporate. For all that both are good bands, it's difficult for me to get any emotional charge from their works. Maybe it's just me.

Not just you, Fred.

Feeling the same way.

OK, granted the lyrics are pretty lame, but they're not quite as lame as printed below. I believe it's 'cool heads' (not 'hats') and 'eats us from the inside out' (not 'up').

I've never listened to any of Snow Patrol's albums before but every time Bill plays one of their songs, I find myself checking to see who it is so apparently I like them. I really love the singer's voice. Guess I should give more of their stuff a listen.
Greater than or equal to "9".  {#Guitarist}
What a tuneless wreath of mediocrity. Sounds like Beck with a hangover. Which is a shame, because Snow Patrol usually churn out very listenable tunes.

FWIW:  this is sonically similar to some Porcupine Tree but otherwise very, very different.  PT's melodies are simple, the arrangements are complex.  Nothing wrong with simple or simpler music.  I love Abba and John Prine. Just saying that Snow Patrol and Porcupine Tree are rather different for those of us who amuse ourselves by comparing one popular rock band to another.

I used to think they were a "lite" band to woo my gf with... and now, having heard and tried to play and sing along... I'm a reluctant big fan, bumped it up to 8. This album is great. So many of their songs are superficially simple... but they are able to blend the lyrics with the hooky music.. better than the average band. Yeah, I hate their cute band name, but I'm a fan, now. Quite slick.
Likey, like!

Thought it was Beck at first listen. Very good, enjoyable, fun to hear!
I think I have readjusted my rating on this song several times, but it's now a 10.  This one will stand the test of time.  A great sound and feel.
It is a great tune.  I think the moral of the story is 7.....When does RP2 go live ?

I'm slightly obsessed with this song.  I could listen to it over and over and over and over again.  All the while I find myself rocking forward and back to the beat, like a crazy person. {#Yes}  In fact, I think I will buy this album today.
