It was just you and me
Sitting in this corner bar
You could tell me how you are
But I'm not going to lie
Or anything
You don't even have to speak
If you keep looking at me
And I could go all night
But they're turning up the lights
It would be so easy
To do or say anything
But I'm not going to lie
I'm not looking for love
I won't let you in my heart
But you are always on my mind
Just love the guitar on this
...and that harmonica too
Hypnotic, haunting, exquisite. Like a movie without words, or an Edward Hopper painting. Never gets old.
I get chills every time.
Tears start to flow every time i hear this song.
I don't know why, but same to me.
I'm not sure how an artist does this....turns desire into song. You can feel the smoldering here, just awaiting a slight breath to watch the flames alight. Magical. Gets me every single time...
Agreed and well said! I always thought of it as a slow-burner but now I'm thinking "smoldering" is more fitting.
That bassline hits me.
Her voice -

Perfectly said and worthing repeating here.
But I'm not going to lie
I'm not looking for love
I won't let you in my heart
But you are always on my mind
- I think this is a lie we often tell ourselves out of self-protection. I think we are looking for love, just like everybody else, as Morrissey says.

That is a very good band. She delivers what she is supposed to, but boy that band behind her is really doing something. Subtle yet strong.
Studio musicians. Awesome, tight studio musicians.
melancholy and beautiful.
agreed.
She's mesmerising...
Nice call.
So how do we categorize this song? Alt-country? New Country?
"Friggin' Awesome"
Neil Young. Cowgirl in the Sand or Cortez the Killer.
minus Neil's cheesy lyrics.
It seems that every time I hear this, I increase my rating. Now I'm on a 10, almost wish there was an 11...
A Radio Paradise signature track.
Nice call.
So how do we categorize this song? Alt-country? New Country?
Kathleen Edwards supporting John Prine... that would have been a terrific concert.
Alas Prine has the C-19 virus although he is reported to be in stable condition.
This brief exchange encapsulates 2020 well. Hope mixed with uncertainty, the key factor being that the hope was based on so little information. Also, this song transfixes me every time I hear it. Sometimes on repeat.
A Radio Paradise signature track.
Signature track sounds a little.... but you're right!!
Dreamy, fuzzy, liquid, hazy, wavy.
One time recently I heard this song in the car just before getting to work. I heard it out in the parking lot, then began my shift. It stuck with me all day.
Cool.
And thanks for washing my car.
Looks like someone thinks so - was just preceded by that very track
They are each outstanding - she's in fine company
It bothers me when someone says this because it may cause another to dismiss the album.
This track is excellent but, there are several (Asking For Flowers, Scared At Night, The Cheapest Key, Buffalo, Sure As Shit) that could vie with this track depending upon your taste.
The whole album is excellent.
There are other fine songs including Asking for Flowers
Great CD but this is easily the best track.
I bought the album after hearing this song on RP, have to say that I agree.
There are a good number of extremely talented, gifted musicians and songwriters out there. Kathleen Edwards is one of them.
Barrista? That's someone who makes coffee inni?
Yup. She quit the music industry a few years back and opened a little coffee shop. Figured (sadly true it turned out) that she'd make better money with less bullshit.
I've seen references to her at least playing the odd gig and going back into the studio but last I heard her coffee shop (Quitters, in Stittsville Ontario) is still her main focus. Or was... wonder if it'll survive this Covid-19 weirdness; everything here (couple hours west) is currently under lock down with no end in sight.

O_T_B is correct. This is the best track off a "great CD". I strongly agree.
The CD also makes for great road music.
EDIT: Oil Man's War is a terrific anti-war song. I love it and to put this into context:
1) I have been listening to anti-war songs since a very early age. Nazi occupation stories too.
2) As an investor I specialize in overseas oil and gas exploration and production companies where the social contract is absolutely critical to getting anything done. Times have changed but I know the history has been rough.
westslope...wow...thanks for sharing some of your bio...I knew there was a (good) reason why I like you (#1) and would love to know more about (#2) - LLRP!!
The whole album is excellent.

For many reasons I need to head north of the 49th parallel. These are just two.

Are you happy or complaining?
I'm gassing up the car, heading out from Seattle today to see what the hell is up.....this talent is too valuable to be wasted on coffee grounds.....
So that would be "blissful from Bristol"? Nice ring to it but really hard to say three times, quickly.
I agree with you 100%.
Hit the nail! Divine!
There's a few of us centrists and progressives here and we do our best to remind the other that we're all in this together. For this some days are better than others. One day this country will find itself again…
…I hope.
So....Make America Gracious Again? I like that idea....Long Live RP and KINDNESS! I'm also going 7 to 8 on this one....it's got something I like in how easy it flows.
Agreed. Saw her perform an extended versions of this, about 3rd song in of the concert. The place spontaneously erupted into a long standing ovation after the song. You couldn't not, it was outstanding.

Well, I could once again be falling for false promises but if NAFTA II is proceeding and the steel and aluminum tariffs are off, then it is back to joyful bourbon excess.
Great CD but this is easily the best track.
I agree. Buffalo, the 5 minute opening track, is also very good. And the track The Cheapest Key is a very fun one. Watch the video of it!
Godspeed, California.
Some songs just have a feel about em, this one feels nice
whole heartedly agree! beautiful!
