Let's go downtown and watch the modern kids
Let's go downtown and talk to the modern kids
They will eat right out of your hand
Using great big words that they don't understand

They say, Rococo, Rococo, Rococo, Rococo
Rococo, Rococo, Rococo, Rococo

They build it up just to burn it back down
They build it up just to burn it back down
The wind is blowing all the ashes around
Oh my dear God, what is that horrible song they're singing

Rococo, Rococo, Rococo, Rococo
Rococo, Rococo, Rococo, Rococo
Rococo, Rococo, Rococo, Rococo
Rococo, Rococo, Rococo, Rococo
Rococo... Rococo...

They seem wild but they are so tame
They seem wild but they are so tame
They're moving towards you with their colors all the same
They want to own you but they don't know what game they're playing

(Rococo... Rococo... Rococo... Rococo...
Rococo... Rococo... Rococo... Rococo... Rococo...)

Must be the worst they ever made.

I'm surprised that out of all the people who expressed dislike for this song, no one has thrown the line "Oh my dear God, what is that horrible song they're singing" back at these guys.
I just upped this from a PSD to a sucko barfo.
Oh boy, this really sucks!
Always something about this one I like....{#Music}
Rocky Rococ......ROAD!

unfortunately, the idiot is somewhat right. It is one of arcades worst and most boring tracks... Their earlier work (Funerals and selftitled EP especially) is far superior to suburbs...

as always, a sequel doesnt live up to its predecessor :(

I'll take a 4 piece that can actually deliver hooks  anytime....

My baby did the same with the song The Police "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da". Tons of fun.

I credit part of that sentiment to the singer's voice, it annoys pretty fast.

Every song of theirs has a melody, whether or not you recognize them.  They may not necessarily be "great" melodies, but that's another matter.

I like them a lot, but definetely not this song.

I find it works the same for me. Maybe songs that stick with you after a first listen are too dependent on a catchy hook or processed with too much "glossy veneer" - overcompressed and so on. Maybe like a magazine cover model - at first glance nice to look at, but if you stared at that image long enough you would find a visual absence of character, detail, interest.

Few songs that I have enjoyed longer than a month have ever grabbed me at first. The grow on me like trees - just a seed at first.

At first listening I thought eh.

After many listenings it has slowly grown on me to the point where this is a totally great song.

This happens a lot. A song I love from the start becomes tiresome shortly after a few listens. And songs I feel eh about to start become real favorites.

Though Arcade fire lacks the precision or complexity of many bands I like, they have an energy and style I find unique in modern bands.

I do LOVE this tune!  Awesome stuff.  The band truly IS "all that!"

I think they're singing about Rocky Rococo from Firesign Theater.
Damn! I saw AF at MSG last summer.. the first show on august 4th and it blew my mind.  I had listened to the album a few times before the show but I never really noticed this song. BUT THEN!! Rococo really stood out as a mega-kick-ass-lift-you-ff-your-seat live number! MAN!! Every time I hear that I am transported back to that amazing concert standing right underneath Win's sweating rockstarness!
IMO this is the weakest song on the album.  I suppose this isn't too bad, interesting musically.  I just can't get into the lyrics and I really don't like the "Rococo rococo..." business.  It sounds like gibberish and I really hate gibberish in songs.  Radio Ga-Ga by Queen is another song with gibberish that I can't stand.  Don't know what it is...
COCA-COLA
COOOCA-COOOLA...
Somebody at SongMeanings.com put it really well... interpreting this song as a commentary on the "hipster" culture.

"Always trying to stay one step ahead of popular culture has lead to an exhausting race in which there are no winners, only the realization that you have become an utterly shameful poseur. "

This is what they're singing about..what's not to like?

my thoughts exactly. this actually bores me

Great sounds - GREAT sounds, but so-so melodies / lyrics. i'd love to hear what this band did with a film score.
Far and away my favorite song on this record. Just hearing the beginning made me sit up a little straighter in my chair.

Although Arcade Fire is based in Canada, Win and Will Butler are actually American born and raised.

I think these Arcade Fire is quite a good band and have a lot of quality material, but I know what you mean about the praise that some critics have lauded on them - that sort of thing can get annoying.  I don't know if the band believes all that stuff though.  That situation reminds me of when a young baseball player is coming up and some sportswriters claim he's "the next Willie Mays" or "the next Tom Seaver" or whoever.  It creates a kind of resentment, when all that guy's trying to do is play baseball.  I think this band would continue to make music regardless of the praise - but honestly - praise makes everything much easier.  To me, it's a good sign when a band who was once on a local, independent label has achieved a level of acclaim and success.  Good song, btw.

Best thing to come out of Canada since ..... Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne, Shania Twain, Bryan Adams, Barenaked Ladies, Nickelback, Sum 41..... wait they all suck.

Let's just say I'm putting this album beside Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and Rush albums instead...
Damn, this band is good...

This album is quickly growing on me.

Damn!  New Arcade Fire, and me with this overlimit credit card, unable to download it from iTunes. Winter, we need to form a club. We'll call it the "Damn!" club.

I'm not sure where to start.....too many targets out there!  I like it.
A really fine song that for me has receded just bit in relation to the songs surrounding it (Ready to Start, Empty Room.....now THOSE are 9  rated cuts to me!).
I appreciate how creative and well done this album is but I just do not care for it.  I think the sonic landscape is to busy for my ear.
Damn! New Arcade Fire, and me with this ancient computer unable to download it from iTunes. :(
This song is pretty much defining my listening this week.  So creative and lyrically expressive.  What a beautiful sonic soundscape.

I just hope it actually gets played... {#Wink}
