Playing in the streets, I was unknowing
I didn't know my fate
Playing
The game of love, but never really showing
I thought that love could wait
I was a young man and sure to go astray
You walked right into my life
And told me love would find a way
To keep on growing
Keep on growing
Keep on growing
I was standing
Looking in the face of one who loved me
Feeling so ashamed
Hoping
And praying, Lord, that she could understand me
But I didn't know her name
She took my hand in hers and told me I was wrong
She said, "You're gonna be all right, boy
Oh, just as long"
"As you keep on growing
Keep on growing
Keep on growing"
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Maybe
Someday baby, who knows where or when, Lord
Just you wait and see
We'll be walking
Together hand in hand, along forever
Woman just you and me
Cause time is gonna change us
Lord, and I know it's true
Our love is gonna keep on glowing
And growing and it's all we gotta do
Keep on growing
Keep on growing
Keep on growing
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Keep on growing
Keep on growing
Keep on growing
I'm guessing that the album cover blonde is Patty Boyd? I wonder how Clapton and Harrison could have remained friends with that beautiful girl between them. Just astounding.....
they probably bonded over memories of abusing her.
To quote someone famous you know...
"What the fuck are you assholes talking about? If you don't get this song then don't comment. Comment on stuff you get; we'll all be cool with positive constructive. Not so much with clueless tin-eared myopia with posts meant for another platform. Sorry, I pay to hear these beautiful mixes, so no patience for dolts with no taste. Have a day."
Time to take your own advice ;-)
Magnificent
The Mix? Not favorable to Duane
Great track from a true classic album
Thanks!
hah ! before ludes, there were Sopors, aka Orange AS
PS one of my favorite albums I bought in the early 70s, along with Who's Next
One of my desert island discs, I could listen this album forever and never get bored.
My favourite track is "Bell Bottom Blues"
Those. . . Guitars!
All except for the lazy, unimaginative and very boring bass

oh my
thats some fine guitar playing
Yeah but Clapton seems to dismiss this type of his old music. He apparently hates Cream's live version of "Crosssroads" which has some of the best solos I've ever heard.
Frankly, I think he should have lost a year of playing privileges for out "Lay Down Sally."
Thank goodness, it's finally over! Another well deserved Sucko-Barfo
You borrow your handle from a classic and write literate comments, not to include the above, yet consign this and "Elizabeth Reed" to the ash heap. At least they have plenty of good company with Dylan, Weather Report, Jeff Beck and Little Feat. Also, you may be in my "too much time on your hands" clique for listening to the entire thing while hating it.
That sounds a lot like "would you be willing to sell your soul?"
Eric's already told you (and shown you) he's been to the crossroads. Did you suppose the price would be anything less?
Ha! like supporters of Potato Head and his partner Word Salad?
but no mean tweets!
well. maybe
with their incoherence, who knows?
Great Tune! ...Too bad that Clapton turned into a douche bag in old age!
LEMME GUESS
his anti-vax stance made your butt hurt?
my only complaint on Clapton....he should play the SG more!

back when they played guitars
noting that Easter is in a few days...Jesus, those guys could play guitar
Absolutely, positively, fuck that racist, xenophobic, antivaxxer Eric Clapton.
May the sheeple be with you.
That sounds a lot like "would you be willing to sell your soul?"
Au contraire. It's terminally dull. I rated it 3 but I skipped it anyway.
I think you are dull, but that is just me

I myself am largely interested in the music itself. And how I was often in my dorm room, a coveted 14' X 8' single, in college in Back Bay Boston in 1976 at 2 a.m. stoned out of my ever hash and speed lovin mind listening to this crank out over my headphones and gazing on the Charles River, or having wondrous sex with one of two ladies at the time, or just enjoying the view of crack of dawn Storrow Drive looking out toward MIT and getting serenaded by Eric and the Layla crew. What a great paradise I had, and this is some of the soundtrack to it, and Eric may be a knucklehead in his senior years (or earlier), but if you were destined to be an a**hole at age 75, wouldn't you still agree to be a master of this sound at 25?
Dave Mason was NOT on the album. He had been part of the Delaney and Bonnie tour, where the Eric met Carl, Bobby, and Jim. Dave joined the group briefly but soon left. The group THEN relocated to Miami to record the album. Duane played on the album but declined to join the group.
Correct about Dave Mason. Duane played on most of the album, but not on this track.
There are 300+ listeners who rated this less than a 7, 35 rated it a 1. Come on folks it doesn't get any better than this!

Dave Mason, Duane Allman, and "Derek" Clapton with producer Tom Dowd. Man!

The first album I ever heard on stereo headphones shortly after it came out amazing stuff.
Pioneer SE-305 Mickey Mouse ears... my first that I could afford.. paid for with my paper route money

Wow mister. You mean back in the day, you could stop eating bread and trade it for records?
No, I ate less/drank less/smoked less weed to HAVE more bread to buy records. THEN I got a great job in a record store in Kenmore Square in Boston and I got a lot of my records for free -- promo copies, defectives, cast offs, etc.

Get rid of the socks. Otherwise your comment is great.
Dave Mason, Duane Allman, and "Derek" Clapton with producer Tom Dowd. Man!
AMEN TO THAT!

You're kidding, right?
Don't worry bout it too much, he's an Al_Koholic and 'sucko-barfo' is his wheel house.
I bumped my 8 to a 9....Long Live RP!!
Where have the years gone?
I know. Feels like I am at a live performance. Fantastic!

Same here.

What he said.
I second that.

eric and duane ! and what a band ! zestyDamn that put a big smile on my face!
...BTW, who is singing in this song!?
It sounds like Clapton and Whitlock singing - they co-wrote it.

BTW, who is singing in this song!?
Derek and the Dominos
who cares!... this is gooooooooooodd

BTW... this song is as old as I am!!! probably that's the reason why I like it!!! what a great year 1971 it was!!
Ha, ha , ha, one of your nicest comments! BTW, who is singing in this song!?
Only if you open up and share more with people, Papernapkin.
RAW RAW RAW AND KICKING ASS!
AND TODAY - AGAIN!!!!
RAW RAW RAW AND KICKING ASS!
I love Clapton but I have never been able to get into this period of his career.
Keep trying. Many see it as his best work. Although, all the drugs in the studio at the time apparently made for some cacophonous moments.
I love Clapton but I have never been able to get into this period of his career.
Same with me.

"Delaney & Bonnie with the future Derek and the Dominos (Eric Clapton, Jim Gordon, Carl Radle, Bobby Whitlook) plus George Harrison playing the classic song "Comin' Home" "
Screechy with bad vocals that goes on too long.
You're kidding, right?

You've never heard this before?!! Have you been living in a cave or in Wyoming? This song and this album are a classic.
That said, I find this song never ending, kinda like inspiration for the Allman Brothers and their endless jams. Not my favorite Clapton song by far.

This song makes me H A P P Y !!!!!!! Love it!
I agree.
I think not!
Sure, it's a v.good track, and the album was a peak in his career, bit not the peak. He had many peaks and there are still more to come, God willing.

Some higher substances playing a role, too..
