How do you deal with restoration like removing pops and clicks ?
Leave them or make some effort to remove them ? Audacity has a fairly effective built in noise remover. It takes a bit of experimenting as its easy to set it to aggressive but it doesn't ruin the master unless you save it so you can keep trying. Fortunately most my records are in excellent condition and I also have a VPI 16.5 record cleaner. I also have a USB microscope I use to locate the source of ticks and pops and most of the time its just some crud crushed deep into the groove that can be carefully removed.

I like having a high quality master to work with so I don't have to do it again later. I've been using Audacity with excellent results. I have an E-Mu 0404usb on the Mac and a E-Mu 1212M on the music server.

Iffen yer rippin vinyl, you must do some kind of restoration to the rip and keep it listenable and as faithful as possible.
All the processing is by ear. What's the goal for the finished product ? Do you hold back so to it can be played on many devices like in your car, or do you just go for the best digital playback possible assuming your home rig can handle it ?
Now that I can finally play my stuff digital all the way thru, I'm finding that some of my finished versions that I thought I went too far on, are now quite acceptable and listenable.
I use Sound Forge 8 for ripping and Magix and SF for processing, keeping it all wav.
Or do you just rip it and leave it raw ?
